Invitation: You are invited to send a team to the first annual Teaching and Learning National Institute. Participating campus teams will develop evidence-based action plans aimed at improving effective instructional practices, student engagement, and student learning and success.

Goal: The goal of this Institute is to help teams foster data-informed change initiatives that improve the quality of students’ experiences in courses and educational activities across the curriculum, leading to increases in student engagement, retention and graduation, and learning outcomes. Examining and improving what happens in the classroom is central to this work. What happens in the classroom--the quality of teaching that sparks engaged student learning--is critical. Developing and sustaining a campus culture that supports quality teaching across the curriculum is equally important.

■  Who: The recommended team will consist of at least 3 faculty members (ideally representing different disciplines), an academic administrator, and at least one other person from your campus central to your planning, such as the Center for Teaching and Learning director, an institutional researcher, a librarian, an educational technology specialist, and/or a student affairs professional. Teams are limited to 8 members.

■  What: With a carefully coordinated mix of plenaries, concurrent sessions, and team-time, this residential institute provides a learning space for campus teams to develop plans that can guide the work of examining, improving, and supporting what happens in classrooms and other learning contexts across their campuses. Experienced educators from across the country will facilitate small and large group sessions, and work directly with teams as resources for the entire Institute. Click here to download the brochure.

■  When: The Institute begins with dinner on Sunday, July 31, and ends Wednesday, August 3 with a wrap-up dinner to celebrate the week’s work and next steps. Team members are expected to be in residence for the duration of the Institute.
