SAVE THE DATE: Aligning Pathways to Careers: Engaging Employers for Student Success

November 15, 2017 - November 17, 2017

Stuart, Florida

Join peers and colleagues November 15-17, 2017 in Stuart, Florida to re-think how students are prepared for success in the workforce.  Strengthening workforce preparation would require most colleges to align career pathways and guided pathways. It also would require colleges to shift along two dimensions: moving from siloed non-credit and for-credit programs to integrated career pathways that prepare students for in-demand careers and continuing education; and deepening and expanding partnerships with business and industry to ensure pathways are responsive to local labor market needs.

Making these changes would require colleges to move beyond discrete, program-level changes to a comprehensive redesign of workforce development that emphasizes alignment with the needs of the regional labor market, integration of for-credit and non-credit programs, and comprehensive student support.

ATD’s Aligning Pathways to Careers: Engaging Employers for Student Success will familiarize attendees with pillars of workforce development redesign that are consistent with pathways work. These include:

  • Industry Engagement: Learning to self-assess and inventory points of outreach to business and industry.
  • Work-Based Learning: Understanding how work-based learning can be embedded into all pathways.
  • Non-credit to Credit Linkages: Encouraging articulation from non-credit to credit and how career pathways can be aligned with guided pathways.
  • Career Advising: Identifying when career advising is offered and how career advisors access information on job opportunities.
  • Focus on Adults:  Using strategies that can help attract adults to return for additional skills and knowledge attainment.
