Getting to Know Our Students: Student Personas
CCBC, using design thinking, now knows its students better and can use this information to improve upon and develop mechanisms to help increase success. The College engaged a large number of full- and part-time faculty, administrators, students, staff, and trustees through the F.A.S2.T. Academy. Through personal interviews, surveys, and focus groups, the College has identified twelve personas that reflect the background, personality, and challenges of our students. Armed with this knowledge, we questioned how and what to teach in our mandatory college success course, how our method of new student orientation and prescriptive remediation in developmental mathematics affected different personal types, and what changes needed to be made to our course schedule. The Personas were distributed to all employees, appear on the CCBC website, and are displayed prominently across the campus.
