Transfer Advising Center

The Transfer Advising Center at Gaston College is a collaboration between the Division of Arts and Sciences and the Student Affairs Division. Two Student Affairs staff as well as five faculty and staff members from the Arts and Sciences division routinely serve as advisors within the Transfer Advising Center. Administrators from the Arts and Sciences Division and Counseling Department supervise daily operations of the Center and assist in the Center during peak times.  The hours of operation mimic those of other student support services. Students are seen in the Center on a drop-in and appointment basis.

A typical student visit to the center consists of multiple steps for both new and returning students. For new students, a visit to the center begins with identifying the student's intended program of study and intended transfer institution(s). Student records are then evaluated for transfer or advanced placement credit as well as identification of developmental education needs. Finally, a two year plan of study is created and students are registered for first semester courses. For returning students, a session at the center begins with examining student progress to date on their two year plan and determining action steps needed such as registration, graduation application, applications to transfer institutions, etc. Center staff also plan monthly transfer college visits, as well as other student outreach events.
