Reading Apprenticeship

Faculty will be trained as Reading Apprenticeship trainers. Then, they will recruit faculty from across the disciplines to participate in trainings and faculty inquiry groups to develop, implement, and evaluate reading apprenticeship strategies into their classrooms.

2013-14 Update: We have a faculty trainer who has conducted four trainings this year: Two trainings have been for tutor in the Center for Academic Success and two trainings have been for faculty members. Altogether, nearly 70 people have gone through initial RA training this academic year. In addition, 6 faculty from different disciplines have joined an ongoing community of practice to master the teaching and learning routines that they learned in the initial training. This year, the coordinator will work on creating online materials for our college.

2014-2015 Update: Our Reading Apprenticeship trainer held several trainings and a faculty inquiry group in the academic year, but the attendance was low. This year, we plan on training two new trainers, and creating a campus wide focus on professional learning. Our hope is that this will help us generate more interest and participation.

2015-2016 Update: Our Reading Apprenticeship trainer held several trainings and a faculty inquiry group in the academic year, but the attendance remains low. We hired a new trainer and funded several new faculty members to go thorugh the full RA training. We also hold RA workshops at each Opening Day, and we offer workshops twice per semester. This year, we plan on strengthening our focus on professional learning and focusing on recruiting the dozens of new faculty who are starting this year or have started in the last year. Our hope is that this will help us generate more interest and participation.
