Student Success/Dev Reading

HDEV 0092 Student Success Course: This course examines factors that underlie learning, success and personal development in higher education. Topics covered include information processing, memory, strategic learning, self-regulation, goal setting, motivation, educational and career planning and learning styles. Techniques of study of time management, listening and note taking, text marking, library and research skills, preparing for exams and using learning resources are covered. Faculty in Student Success, Developmental Reading and English as a Second Language meet monthly to coordinate teaching efforts to ensure alignment of teaching concepts and skills needed to be successful, add reading elements and other activities students consistently struggle with.

This intervention has become our Quality Enhancement Plan for the next five years.  The Developmental Reading courses are paired with a Student Success course (HDEV 0092 or EDUC 1300) depending on the level of the developmental reading course they are taking.  Since we just went through Reaffirmation this past year, we have only begun to pilot the new plan with two classes in the Spring 2013 term.
