Community College and Business Strategic Partnerships: Building a Highly Skilled and Qualified Current and Future Workforce Together (Spotlight)

Business concerns about the growing skills gaps make partnerships with community colleges more critical than ever to meet industry needs for a highly qualified and skilled workforce. Today, businesses are turning to community colleges to remain competitive by partnering with them to improve the skills of existing workers due to rapidly changing technologies, providing work experience opportunities to attract the next generation of skilled workers, and helping design competency-based education programs to accelerate a student's time to completion and labor market. Come hear how Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and TriHealth built and expanded their partnership from the successful Health Careers Collaborative and Tyler Junior College, working with Luminant, a large electric utility in Texas, created Luminant Power Track, a two-year scholarship program designed to produce graduates for power plant jobs in Texas and the Luminant Academy providing technical, leadership and management training to Luminant employees working in energy generation, mining and construction across Texas.
