Dr. Nichole Gibbs Thomas is Director of Digital Learning at Achieving the Dream, Inc. In this role, Nichole is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to scale and sustain the spread of digital learning practices among the ATD network and beyond. She directs ATD's digital learning programs and works with several national partner organizations to promote awareness and use of Inspark smart courses.
Nichole has served as a full-time faculty member at several institutions, including three community colleges. She is an industrial/organizational psychologist with a wide range of knowledge and experience in the areas of college persistence and student success, organizational psychology, post-secondary academic advising, as well as research methods and statistics. She has authored educational research studies and reports, including a recent instructional intervention study on helping struggling students with increasing exam scores and decreasing exam skipping behavior.
Nichole's post-secondary full-time teaching experience includes serving as Professor of Counseling and Advising at Montgomery College, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Northern Virginia Community College, Applied Research Project Instructor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and Instructor of Psychology at Chesapeake College. Nichole also served as a part-time faculty member at several colleges and universities including Prince Georges Community College and Southern New Hampshire University.
As a Research Scientist for the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Nichole conducted research studies, worked with content expert panels, and authored comprehensive research reports for national accrediting agencies, as well as brief research reports for the public. Nichole also served as an Assistant Director of Online Exams at the University of Maryland University College, where she served as the leader of the online exams project, conducted national survey research studies, and implemented faculty training on online exam development.
Nichole is an honors graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon School and Howard University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She earned a masters degree at the City University of New York and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology from Walden University.
