Eleanor M Brown, Ph. D.

Educational Consultant with the Collaborative Brain Trust

Dr. Eleanor Brown is an Educational Consultant with the Collaborative Brain Trust and a Leadership Coach for Achieving the Dream. Before joining ATD, Eleanor provided leadership specifically in the areas of minority development for numerous community colleges in a myriad of capacities including: Vice President of Student Services at three community colleges, two of which were Hispanic Service Institutions, Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona, and Oxnard College in Oxnard, California, Vice President of Student Development at Galveston College in Galveston, Texas, which had a Hispanic student population of 28%, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Services for the Pima Community College district, a large, single college, multi-campus district in Tucson, Arizona.

Eleanor began her administrative career as the Director of Financial Aid at Anchorage Community College in Anchorage, Alaska, which had a large Alaska Indian and Eskimo student population, many of whom came to the college directly from remote villages and were underprepared academically and for the social transition to urban life. Eleanor used this experience as motivation to found programs emphasizing the importance of providing on-going and student-friendly support services for all entering-college populations. She has facilitated the development of and executed four must-haves for student-centered services: Student Services structurally organized into a “One-Stop” concept, mandatory academic advising services geared to look at students holistically and advise them into courses appropriate for both their academic skill level and to provide a structured academic pathway, financial aid workshops scheduled to help students and families understand the complexities of applying and remaining eligible for economic support, and obligatory orientation courses and workshops designed to provide continuous student support while learning how to navigate college, how to be a successful student, and how to use on-line services.

Eleanor holds a doctorate of philosophy in higher education administration/community college leadership from the University of Texas, an M.A. in education from the University of Texas, Austin, and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Alaska.
