Leonor Xochitl Perez, Ph.D.

Dr. Leonor Xochitl Perez is a Data Coach for Achieving the Dream. In this role she guides some of ATD’s Tribal colleges and universities institution‐wide student success initiatives.

Leonor has nearly 20 years of experience in higher education research, evaluation and administration. She was the Dean of Research and Planning at East Los Angeles College, a Hispanic-serving institution, for eight years, and worked as a consultant for the California Community College Chancellor's Office (CCCCO). In her seven years with the CCCO, Leonor conducted evaluations of EOPS and Matriculation Programs at 35 California community colleges. Leonor’s experience in administration includes working as a Program Manager for the Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities at the Harvard Medical School and Program Manager for the Title V grant for Hispanic-serving institutions at Southwestern College.

Leonor’s research focuses on issues of access and equity for students of color and community college student success. She has presented her work at several national and international conferences including the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the American Association of Community Colleges, and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities - international conference. Her single and co-authored articles have been published inResearch in Higher Education, theJournal of College Student Development, and the Community College Review.

Leonor holds a doctorate in higher education and organizational change from UCLA, an Ed.M. in human development and psychology from Harvard, and a B.A. in psychology from UCLA.
