William D. Law, Jr., Ph.D.

Achieving the Dream Leadership Coach

Dr. William D. Law, Jr. currently serves as a Leadership Coach for Achieving the Dream. Prior to joining ATD, William served as the sixth president of St. Petersburg College.

William brings decades of public service and educational experience to ATD. Before starting his tenure at St. Petersburg College in 2010, he served eight years as president of Tallahassee Community College; he was also president and served for ten years with Montgomery College in suburban Houston. Additionally, William served four years as president for Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois, and became the vice president of Institutional and Program Planning at St. Petersburg College (then St. Petersburg Junior College), where he worked until 1988. Early in his career, William served as staff director of the Florida House of Representatives' Committee on Higher Education and worked for the Florida Board of Regents.

In his several presidential positions, William has become well-known as an advocate of economic and workforce development, student success, and community outreach. He currently serves on eight boards, and his effort to increase student success has allowed him to work at state and national levels. William has served as a consultant with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, provided expert testimony to the United States House of Representatives, and served as a member of the Florida Task Force on Community College Baccalaureate Education.

William holds a doctorate and M.A. in design and management of postsecondary education from Florida State University, and a B.A. in English from LeMoyne College.
