President Emeritus, Northwestern Connecticut Community College
Eileen Baccus is the President Emeritus of Northwestern Connecticut Community College and Coach for Achieving the Dream. As an Achieving the Dream Coach, Dr. Baccus consults eight community colleges and two universities from Vermont to California to help improve their student retention and graduation rates, particularly for low-income students and students of color.
Prior to her role with Achieving the Dream, Dr. Baccus served as president of Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted, CT for a period of twelve years. She had served as president of the former Thames Valley State Technical College in Norwich, CT for a period of six years leading up to the merger of the technical and community colleges in Connecticut. She was also a longtime employee of the University of Connecticut serving in various administrative capacities. In addition to higher education institutions, Dr. Baccus worked in the corporate arena with IBM and with Aetna Life and Casualty Co.
Dr. Baccus has served on numerous boards in higher education, arts organizations, and banking. Among those were several terms on the boards of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). She is a founding board member of the Amistad Center for Art and Culture at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, CT. Dr. Baccus also served on the board of the former CT Savings and Loan Association, Hartford, CT.
Educational background: Dr. Baccus holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Fisk University; MBA in industrial administration; and Ph.D. in higher education administration both from the University of Connecticut.
