Dean of Faculty at the Roueche Graduate Center, National American University
As an Achieving the Dream Coach, Martha Ellis consults with four community colleges in Texas, with an interest in improving their student learning and completion for disenfranchised populations through faculty and external community engagement.
Martha is currently the Dean of Faculty at the Roueche Graduate Center, National American University. Prior to this role, Martha was the Associate Vice Chancellor for Community College Partnerships for the University of Texas System. In this role she worked with the universities and community colleges in Texas to facilitate student transfer policies and other partnerships that promote student success and completion. Before joining the University of Texas System, Dr. Ellis served for seven years as president of Lee College in Baytown, TX. She also served as president of Texas State Technical College in Waco, TX. Dr. Ellis has held various faculty and administrative positions in community colleges for 28 years.
Dr. Ellis is a facilitator for Leadership Institutes for the American Association of Community Colleges and community colleges throughout the nation. She is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences. She served on the board of the American Association of Community Colleges and was a Trustee for the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Ellis serves on numerous economic development, chamber, and nonprofit boards.
Educational Background: Dr. Ellis has a Ph.D in higher education administration and research from University of North Texas; a MS in developmental psychology from University of Texas at Dallas; and BA in music and psychology from American Christian College. She has completed post doctoral work at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, an internship at the Albert Ellis Institute, New York, and is a graduate of the New Presidents Institute at Harvard University.
