John McGuire served as President of St. Charles Community College in St. Peters, Missouri, from 1996 to 2011. He served as President of Owensboro Community College in Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1991 to 1996. As an Achieving the Dream Coach, Dr. McGuire consults with Passaic County Community College in New Jersey, Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey, and Wallace State Community College in Alabama.
Prior to his role with Achieving the Dream, Dr. McGuire served over 40 years in community colleges in five states, including chief academic and student services officer at Community College of Aurora, Colorado, and assistant chief academic officer at Parkersburg Community College, Parkersburg, West Virginia. He has exercised leadership in institutional research and effectiveness, student success, creating tobacco-free colleges, and statewide policies to strengthen transfer opportunities for community college students.
Dr. McGuire served on numerous civic and educational boards, including the Executive Committee (past president) of the Economic Development Council of St. Charles County, the Missouri Community College Association Presidents and Chancellors Council (former president), member (former president) of the Great Rivers Greenway Board (creating a 600 mile trail system throughout the St. Louis region), and board member of the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association. Dr. McGuire also served on the AACC Presidents Academy Executive Committee.
Educational Background: Dr. McGuire holds an B.A. in History; M.A. in History from West Virginia University; and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University.
