Ed Morante is currently a grant writer and consultant in higher education and that includes serving as a Data Coach for Achieving the Dream. As an Achieving the Dream Data Coach, Dr. Morante has been consulting several colleges since 2005.
Prior to his role with Achieving the Dream, Dr. Morante retired from College of the Desert (COD) in Palm Desert, California in 2005 as a Professor Emeritus after working there for 14 years as a faculty member, counselor, grant writer, and administrator. He began his career as a licensed psychologist and Director of the Counseling Center at New Jersey Institute of Technology. From there he became the Director of the New Jersey Basic Skills Assessment Program, a statewide effort to assess the skills of entering students at all public and a dozen independent colleges in the state, as well as evaluate the outcomes of all developmental education programs. Several years later, Dr. Morante was named Director of the College Outcomes Evaluation Program, a state effort to evaluate student learning and other aspects of higher education at all public colleges and universities in New Jersey. In 1991, he was named COD’s Dean of Student Services and Learning Resources, responsible for a variety of programs including Admissions, Financial Aid, the Learning Center, Counseling, Financial Aid, TRIO, International Students, Student Activities, Disabled Students, Library, Institutional Research, Media Center, and Athletics.
Dr. Morante has also been a trainer for evaluating TRIO programs for 10 years, served on the Assessment Council of Western Governor’s University for 10 years, and has taught assessment, placement and evaluation at the Kellogg Institute for Developmental Education for more than 20 years. Dr. Morante is the author of several journal articles and book chapters and was featured in an interview with the Journal of Developmental Education in 1998. He has been a frequent speaker, trainer and workshop leader and is an active grant writer with over $40 million won for various colleges.
Educational Background: Dr. Morante holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Manhattan College in New York and a Masters and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
