Bill Piland Ed.D.

Professor Emeritus, San Diego State University 

As an Achieving the Dream Data Coach,  Bill Piland has been consulting three community colleges in Hawaii and Washington.

Dr. Piland has had a 46-year career in higher education.  He is a former community college business instructor, Director of a Business Division, Dean of Career Education, and Dean of Instruction for four different community colleges.  He has been a university professor, teaching community college leadership courses for 34 years.  He has been a visiting professor at the University of Arizona and the University of British Columbia. His latest book is entitled “Help Wanted:  Preparing Community College Leaders in a New Century.”

Dr. Piland currently serves on the Board of the Institute for Evidence Based Change (IEBC) working with educational institutions across the country to improve student success. He also serves as a consultant for the Student Success by the NUMBERS (SSBTN) initiative, working with two colleges in Texas.  

Educational Background: Dr. Piland holds an A.A. from Wright Junior College; a B.A. in Marketing; a M.S. in Business Education; and an Ed.D. in Community College Studies from Northern Illinois University
