Nancy Showers

Executive Director of Planning, Quality & Accreditation at Oakland Community College

Nancy Showers is the Executive Director of Planning, Quality & Accreditation at Oakland Community College (OCC), in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a multi-campus community college with annual unduplicated enrollments of over 45,000 students. Her current responsibilities include formulation and implementation of policies governing institutional planning, performance excellence, and college-wide accreditation activities. Prior to this role, she led a well-resourced Institutional Research department in providing data to the college with an overarching goal of building a culture of evidence, while focusing on coordination and consistency of studies and data usage among the college’s five campuses.

Nancy has been a volunteer Examiner for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program for many years, serving as examiner, senior examiner, team leader, examiner on the national case study review team, technical editor and training facilitator. In 2010, Ms. Showers became a Senior Examiner, leading teams through application review and consensus. In addition, she has volunteered for the Michigan Quality Council in developing and delivering training materials for state-level examiners.

Nancy holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree and a Master of Science in Administration degree, both from Central Michigan University. She is currently completing coursework at the University of Toledo in pursuance of a PhD degree in Higher Education.  Advancing her training, she has received instruction at the Summer Institute for Survey Research at the University of Michigan, studying Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Research Design and Question Testing Methods.  She has also co-authored a peer-reviewed article, “Does Classroom Composition Matter? College Classrooms as Moderators of Developmental Education Effectiveness,” which was published in Community College Review in 2014.
