From Programs to Pathways: Standout Practices Linking Non-Credit and Credit for Today’s Adult Learner

Achieving the Dream’s exploratory study focused on three areas critical to entice adult learners to engage and ultimately succeed in postsecondary education. Overall, institutions that provide high quality prior learning assessment,
a variety of resources tailored to adult learners, and implement a pathway model will ensure that those adult learners walking through its doors are set up for success in achieving whatever their academic goals may be. This student-centered approach also calls for ensuring the burden is not on the student and that the transitions from non-credit to credit are clearly designed and articulated to students.
