Dr. Richard Sebastian is the director of open and digital learning at Achieving the Dream, leading innovative grant projects investigating the effective and equitable implementation of open educational resources, open and culturally responsive pedagogy, and hybrid and digital learning. He also helped design and develop resources and services to help ATD colleges effectively integrate high-impact open and digital practices into institutional reform and student success efforts.
Before joining ATD, Dr. Sebastian was the director of teaching and learning technologies for the Virginia Community College System, where he developed and promoted policies and practices on the effective use of educational technology, OER adoption, faculty professional development and training, and online learning. Over his career he has worked in a variety of educational settings, from university campuses to literacy centers, in correctional institutions, manufacturing facilities, and wilderness classrooms. He received his doctorate in education from the University of Virginia and lives with his wife, son, and dogs in Richmond, VA.
