Jana Kooi is currently consulting in online education and higher education product development. She served in Campus President roles for both Florida State College at Jacksonville (2011- 2021) and Pima Community College (1991- 2011). In both leadership roles, Ms. Kooi led strategic initiatives to establish robust and effective systems to support online development and learning. Throughout her career, she has established a wide range of new programs, grown existing programs to maximum enrollment, developed contract training for high-level industry partners, and managed multi-million-dollar grant programs. Most recently, she served as Vice President for Workforce Education at FSCJ. During Ms. Kooi’s time in this role, the College’s enrollment has consistently increased and the Contracts/Continuing Workforce Education department has become self-sustaining.

How has education changed your life/your family?
Like many higher education leaders, Ms. Kooi started her professional journey in the classroom. She started with adults in the community college system and focused on continuing education, special education, and employment skills. Her move into leadership roles coincided with the rise of interest in online learning, and she has been on the cusp of online learning since the early 90’s. Her commitment and love of learning pairs well with the open access community college model. She loves to spend time with students and seek innovative ways to meet student needs to offer an exceptional learning experience. Ms. Kooi comes from a family dedicated to the value of education.
