Our collective efforts have changed the conversation among community colleges: from valuing student access to higher education to prizing both access and success – so that students finish what they start and attain credentials that help them secure a job with family sustaining wages.

We believe in the enormous potential of community colleges to contribute to individual student success, community well-being, and state and national economic competitiveness.

As community colleges are working toward student success, they are faced with local, state and Federal policies which challenge acceleration and completion strategies.

Achieving the Dream mobilizes greater support for community colleges and spotlights the importance of a comprehensive agenda for student success and the role of community colleges in meeting the nation’s workforce needs.

  • Colleges

More than 200 institutions of higher education throughout 35 states and the District of Columbia are part of the Achieving the Dream National Reform Network. These institutions play a vital role in advancing the student success agenda and helping state and national efforts to close achievement gaps and increase the attainment of credentials and degrees.

  • State Policy Teams

Public policy is a powerful force that can either help or hinder the efforts of community colleges working to close achievement gaps and increase student success and completion. Some of the most promising advances in student success are in states where community college leaders and state policymakers are working as partners to make well-informed, mutually-reinforcing reform decisions anchored in equity and excellence.
