When Students DREAM, They Achieve
Access to life-changing learning propels students into community-changing careers. Our DREAM Student Scholars program goes beyond financial support, giving community college students a year-long experiential learning opportunity designed to enhance leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills.
Each year, ATD chooses up to eight resilient students, determined to reach their goals and lift up their communities, to join our DREAM program. Your support makes it possible for them to thrive.

Higher Education for All
Education shouldn’t be available only to those who can afford it. The Harvey Lincoln Student Scholarship, named for one of our most ardent advocates and volunteers, provides need-based scholarships for community college students at Achieving the Dream institutions who have persisted in their studies despite educational, personal, or financial obstacles.

DREAM Scholars are selected to participate in a year-long experiential learning opportunity designed to enhance leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills. The program culminates in attending and sharing their experiences at DREAM, our annual convening.
Every year, up to eight DREAM Scholars are selected through a competitive application process.
DREAM Scholars are nominated from across the ATD Network of community colleges and selected for their leadership, initiative, and commitment to improving higher education.
Scholarship funds can be used to continue their associate degree, or to apply toward a bachelor’s degree.
Harvey Lincoln Scholarship FAQs
Harvey Lincoln, whom we lost in 2016, was married to Achieving the Dream’s long-serving Senior Vice President Carol Lincoln. Harvey was, in every sense of the word, a true supporter of Achieving the Dream and an advocate for low-income students and students of color. Harvey was also one of Achieving the Dream’s most ardent volunteers. Achieving the Dream honors his legacy by providing scholarship opportunities to determined and engaged students.
The scholarship award is $3,000 per student.
Harvey Lincoln Student Scholarship nominations must be made by staff, faculty members, or administrators at current Achieving the Dream institutions (or “college sponsors”). The college sponsor must submit information about the student being nominated for the scholarship and along with the student’s short scholarship essay.
Two students are chosen each year.
Scholarship funds may be used to cover any cost related to attending a college in the Achieving the Dream Network or transferring from an Achieving the Dream community college to a four-year institution including tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment, transportation, food, and other living expenses.
