Today, as I begin my role as president and CEO of Achieving the Dream, I do so with gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility for the work ahead.
I step into this role knowing that the strength of this organization has always been rooted in the people who do this work every day and in the colleges that place their trust in us.
To our ATD Network colleges: thank you for that trust. You are at the center of our work. I am committed to deepening our partnership with you and making sure you have the data, tools, and support needed to drive meaningful and lasting transformation. As higher education moves through a period of significant change, ATD will continue to be a catalyst for innovation, and a responsive, practical partner that can help you navigate those changes.
To colleges beyond our Network and to our many partner organizations: ATD will continue to work to find more ways to connect, learn from one another, and strengthen this work across the broader field.
At the center of this work are the students and communities we serve. Every strategy we pursue and every partnership we build should make our students’ journeys through college clearer, stronger, and more connected to opportunity.
And that opportunity should not stop at the edge of a campus. Community colleges play a critical role in the health of our communities, our workforce, and our economy. When students succeed, communities are stronger for it.
That work is only possible because of the many partners who stand alongside colleges: philanthropy, associations, intermediary organizations, policymakers, employers, and community leaders. Each of us has a role to play, and I believe our work is strongest when it is connected. The challenges ahead are too big and the opportunities too important for any one of us to do this alone.
Community colleges have always been engines of opportunity and transformation. That has never been more important than it is right now.
I’m grateful to our board of directors for this opportunity and their trust, and to the staff of Achieving the Dream for the strong foundation they have built. I’m honored to step into this role, and I’m ready for the work ahead.
