Achieving the Dream Announces Eight Community College Students Selected as 2021 DREAM Scholars

SILVER SPRING, MD — Achieving the Dream (ATD) today announced that eight ATD Network community college students have been chosen as 2021 DREAM Scholars. Included among them are one Tribal College and University student and one student from a Gateway to College program, which merged with ATD in 2019.

The Scholars, chosen from an impressive pool of applicants, will participate in ATD’s 2021 DREAM Scholars program which provides tailored leadership development and networking opportunities. Each Scholar will present at DREAM 2021, lending their voice and perspective to an audience of nearly 3,000 community college educators, administrators, and leaders.

The 2021 DREAM Student Scholars are:

• Jasminh Au — Gateway to College at Laney College (CA)
• Sarah Cuevas — Triton College (IL)
• Bheri Hallam – Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (ND)
• Nikita Johnson — Lorain County Community College (OH)
• Pedro Moranchel — Hudson County Community College (NJ)
• Estefany Palencia — Westchester Community College (NY)
• Ethan Rossier — Middlesex Community College (CT)
• Clifton Traywick — Western Technical College (WI)

During the conference, the Scholars will meet with community college leaders, share their educational experiences, and attend sessions on improving student success, institutional governance, teaching and learning, administration, and more. Their DREAM experience includes individual presentations where Scholars share what they have learned during the week, while providing additional insight about how their ATD institution works to improve student success and completion and close equity gaps for historically underserved student populations.

Achieving the Dream’s DREAM Scholar program is an experiential learning opportunity for student leaders looking to make a difference on their campus and in their communities. In addition to the scholar’s learning experience, the program integrates dynamic student voices into Achieving the Dream’s annual DREAM conference.  The DREAM Scholar program is funded by private gifts from ATD network members, ATD employees, coaches, Board members and partners and friends of ATD.
