Dr. Chad Brown is president at Zane State College (ZSC) and was a 2023 American Association of Community Colleges CEO of the year finalist. His quote to live by comes from Teddy Roosevelt: “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” Dr. Brown is a servant leader who is passionate about empowering his employees in a creative and compassionate workplace culture. His leadership style shows a commitment to building trust, igniting passion, and caring deeply about the success of others. Keeping the local community at the forefront, he is involved in various boards and organizations that collectively benefit those most in need.
Since 2005, Dr. Brown has led ZSC’s student success work, first as ATD core team leader, then provost, and now as president. A self-proclaimed data geek, Dr. Brown’s emphasis on data democratization and transparency has helped this small, rural, Appalachian college gain state and national recognition as a Leader College, Leader College of Distinction, and the 2012 Leah Meyer Austin Award winner. Despite these success, Dr. Brown has never lost sight of the fact that there is always more to learn and that this work is not for the faint of heart.
