Dr. Kimberly James is a social justice leader committed to promoting an atmosphere where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are championed. She is a higher education policy expert with an emphasis on determining if key performance indicators should or should not be used as an instrument to provide funding for higher education. She has over 35 years of experience in higher education administration and teaching and over 30 years of experience in career services and workforce development.
Dr. James is concluding her appointment as interim vice-president of diversity, equity, and inclusion for CT State Community College. In this role, she provides vision, strategy, and operational execution to the 12 campuses of CT State. She has developed short- and long-term strategic plans, goals, and vision to move diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives forward with measurable outcomes.
She is also an adjunct economics professor in the Connecticut College and University System. At the University of Hartford, she designed the Race, Justice, and Protest Across the Disciplines curriculum, a course she teaches.
Dr. James holds multiple certificates: diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace; negotiation, conflict resolution, and non-violent crisis intervention; and post-crises leadership. She has conducted national and international workshops on equity and inclusion, outcomes-based funding, career exploration and planning, and self-esteem and motivation.
