About Eastern Shore Community College

Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC) is the only postsecondary institution with a physical presence in its service area. ESCC provides college transfer and career and technical degrees, workforce credentials, continuing education, high school equivalency diplomas, and ESL classes. ESCC is the smallest of Virginia’s 23 publicly funded community colleges with an unduplicated headcount of approximately 925 for academic year 2022-23. ESCC is a member of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the associate degree. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily through tuition and other state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the ESCC Foundation. ESCC’s service area of Accomack and Northampton counties comprise the Eastern Shore of Virginia, a peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The 70-mile-long region is at the southern end of the Delmarva Peninsula and is connected to the mainland of Virginia by the 17-mile-long Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. This primarily rural / agricultural area has a population of approximately 45,000.
