Operationalizing equity to transform teaching and learning

News & Updates
January 5, 2022

As we begin a new year, Achieving the Dream (ATD) and Every Learner Everywhere continue their commitment to ensuring equitable outcomes for the students we serve. ATD’s Teaching and Learning team is excited to offer a four-part webinar series during the spring of 2022. The Operationalizing Equity, Social Justice, and Inclusion to Transform Teaching and Learning Webinar Series will begin in January 2022 running through May 2022; the series is open to all who are interested in advancing an antiracist and equitable student success agenda.

Operationalizing Equity, Social Justice, and Inclusion to Transform Teaching and Learning - Webinar Series

To address issues of equity in higher education institutions, this series will provide a multi-pronged approach for advancing inclusive teaching and digital learning. Participants will engage in moderated panel discussions led by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) experts. Sessions will focus on embedding inclusion, equity, and social justice in course content; the process of operationalizing equity in the classroom; developing culturally responsive assessments; and creating inclusive teaching and learning environments.

In alignment with Achieving the Dream and Every Learner Everywhere’s vision, these webinars are founded on equity and access to inclusive classroom environments that advance the implementation of teaching and learning practices that address racial and economic inequities through an antiracist lens.

Designing Assessments through a Culturally Responsive Lens
Tuesday, April 12, 2022, 3:00–4:00 p.m. ET
Traditional classroom assessments (exams, quizzes, essays) work for some students, but do they demonstrate learning for students who experience inequitable outcomes? How do we measure learning and growth in a way that supports student success? This workshop will provide examples of successful innovative and digital assessment approaches that center students and allow for authentic and culturally responsive measurement of student learning. Additionally, participants will learn strategies to deconstruct their own assignments and outcomes.
